⚠ Use at your own risk.
Tools You'll Need
10mm Socket
For side cover and actuator mounting bolts.
Screwdrivers
Phillips and flathead. For harness brackets.
Zip Ties
To route and secure the wiring harness cleanly.
Work Light
Optional but helpful for tight spaces.
Always work on a cool engine with the key removed. Ensure ATV is parked on level ground and is stable before beginning.
Step-by-Step
-
Prepare Your ATV
Park on a flat, stable surface. Turn off the engine and remove the key. Allow the engine to cool for at least 10 minutes before beginning work.
TipLay out all kit components on a clean surface before you start so nothing gets lost.
-
Route the Wiring Harness
Feed the harness along the frame rail toward the handlebars and battery. Locate the left handlebar stock switch and follow the wires down to a large plug connector. You MUST REMOVE the connector from the frame clip before you can unplug it — failure to do so can damage the plug connectors and cause failure or allow water intrusion. Then connect directly to the shift motor and connect to the battery. Follow existing cable routes where possible. Use the included zip ties to secure every 6–8 inches.
ImportantKeep the harness away from hot exhaust components and moving parts like the steering and suspension.
-
Connect the Harness
Plug each color-coded connector into its matching factory connector. The connectors are keyed — they will only connect one way. You should feel a positive click on each one.
-
Test All Functions
Start the engine. With the ATV in a stationary safe position, verify the display (if equipped) shows correct gear selection. Next, confirm the UP and DOWN shift buttons are shifting correctly through all gear positions. Shifts should be smooth and positive.
Foreman 450 NoteThe Foreman 450 model may only show first and reverse gear positions on the display — this is normal.

Avoid the Most Common Mistakes
Always disconnect the battery first
Prevents the most common install error. Takes 30 seconds and protects your kit and ATV electronics.
Route wiring away from heat
Keep all wiring at least 3 inches from the exhaust. Use the included zip ties near the engine.
Don't force the connectors
All plugs use push-release tabs. Press the tab and pull straight — forcing sideways will break the locking tab.
Test before buttoning up
Reconnect the battery and test all gears before reinstalling side panels. Much easier to troubleshoot with everything accessible.
Troubleshooting
Shifting feels stiff
You may have a stuck clutch pack, which is common on these models, or may just need a periodic clutch adjustment which should be performed during normal service intervals.
Button doesn't respond
Confirm all harness connectors are fully clicked in. Check that no connector has a bent pin. Trace the harness for any kinks or pinched sections. Verify the battery is in good condition and check connections. Also confirm the fuse is installed in the kit's waterproof housing — it requires a 25 or 30 amp blade type fuse.
Gear display incorrect
The gear selection may be displayed correctly but will still flash error codes it's receiving from the ECU — this kit will not erase or delete codes in the computer. The Shift Kit functions without the dash completely if needed for diagnostics or testing.
